W is for Winter learning with letter crafts

Teaching the letters of the alphabet is always a favorite of mine.  One great way to engage kids in letter learning is to give them activities that create letter crafts.  Making a craft for each letter of the alphabet helps kids notice similarities and differences in the way the letters are formed and that each letter makes different sounds.  Today we are looking at the letter W, specifically W is for Winter.

fun alphabet craft for W using marshmallows

For this craft I cut out the letter W out of construction paper and gave the kids a small bowl of mini marshmallows.  Most kids are suckers for anything that involves food, so they are usually very excited to participate.   I tell the kids that we are going to pretend the marshmallows are snowballs and we are going to stick them onto our W to represent Winter.  Next I have the kids take a bite out of a marshmallow and eat that half and then stick the other half onto the W.  Because the marshmallow is so sticky NO GLUE is needed!  Such yummy fun!
